Jesus in Your Name

A song composed by Deanna Ng

I wrote this song for CYD 2019 and was inspired by my SOCL experience. During SOCL, I was very burdened by my own sin and had to face this sense of unworthiness. When I could not lift my eyes to Him, He came close to me and spoke truth to me. Jesus revealed to me that He is merciful and compassionate, and no amount of sin can stop Him from loving me. In the end, the only thing that was stopping me from receiving God’s love was my own self-condemnation and spiritual pride.

So this song is my testimony to God’s victory in my life. It is a reminder to myself that God has freed me from my self-hatred and has given me new hope in Him. Although I continue to sin, I cling to God’s promise of new life and will fight with Easter joy.

I hope that as you listen to this song, you are reminded of the unfailing nature of God’s mercy and that there is no condemnation in Him. In the words of Mother Teresa, “God has not called me to be successful, He has called me to be faithful.”
